Our focus lies in general veterinary care (small animal medicine), exotic/small mammal medicine, and dental care for small and companion animals.

Below, you will find a detailed list of our services:

Dental Treatments

We provide advice on dental health and the prevention of dental diseases. Our services include:

  • Professional dental cleanings for dogs and cats
  • Digital dental radiography
  • Periodontal treatments
  • Treatment of resorptive lesions
  • Tooth extractions (open and closed)
  • Treatment of oronasal fistulas
  • Dental fillings and root canal treatments
  • Dental treatments for rabbits and rodents (see Exotic/Small Mammal Medicine)
Digital Dental Radiography

As is standard in human medicine, we use small X-ray films placed directly in the mouth of the anaesthetised animal. With our dental X-ray tube, we produce high-resolution digital images. These images allow for immediate and precise assessment of the teeth, supporting structures, and surrounding jawbone, ensuring optimal treatment.

Without dental X-rays prior to treatment, a proper evaluation of the teeth and periodontal structures is impossible. Many clinically significant dental issues lie below the gum line and are not visible to the naked eye. Undetected dental problems can cause chronic pain, often lasting for years.

Your pet — and you — will benefit from our high-quality dental care.

Exotic/Small Mammal Medicine

Our specialist in exotic animal medicine, Dr. Anja Böttcher, provides comprehensive medical care for small mammal patients, including:

  • Ophthalmology (Clinical diagnosis and treatment of common eye conditions, intraocular pressure measurement, nasolacrimal duct flushing, dacryocystography)
  • Diagnostic Imaging (X-rays, ultrasound, CT)
  • Surgery (Neutering of male and female animals, soft tissue surgery of the urinary and reproductive tracts, gastrointestinal tract and skin, tumour removal, orthopaedic surgery, ear surgery, lateral ear canal ablation (LECA), bulla osteotomy (BO) if required, dental procedures)
  • Dermatology (Diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions, skin scrapings, cytology, mycological testing)
  • Exotic Animal Medicine (e.g., African pygmy hedgehogs, African giant pouched rats, others upon request)
  • Preventive Care (Detailed dietary and husbandry advice for all small mammal species, vaccination consultations and administration)
  • Internal Medicine
  • Laboratory Diagnostics (Blood, urine, and faecal testing, bacteriological/virological and cytological examinations)
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Otology (Clinical diagnosis and treatment of ear conditions, prophylaxis, CT scans)
  • Dentistry (Clinical diagnosis and treatment of dental disease, advanced multi-view jaw radiography (including dental X-rays), occlusion correction, tooth extractions, abscess management, aftercare)

External Specialist Consultations: If your small mammal patient is ill and you would like a second opinion (further diagnostics, review of external test results such as blood work or imaging), we are happy to advise. Please understand that we charge for consultation services (based on the German Fee Schedule for Veterinarians, Gebührenordnung für Tierärzte, GOT). For invoicing, kindly provide your address details (registration form).

Digital Radiography

Radiography (X-rays) is a widely used imaging technique to visualise structures such as bones and soft tissues.

We use it to diagnose or rule out conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, heart, lungs, and other abdominal tissues.

Our high-resolution direct digital radiography system provides instant imaging with minimal radiation exposure and is environmentally friendly. The software and image processing enable superior visualization, ensuring greater diagnostic accuracy compared to traditional film X-rays.

The resulting X-ray images can easily be shared via email.

Ultrasound Diagnostics

During an ultrasound examination (sonography), the ultrasound machine sends sound waves into the body via a transducer. Depending on how these waves reflect off internal organs and tissues, the machine generates a detailed image.

In our practice, we perform ultrasound diagnostics—a non-invasive method to detect or rule out certain diseases of the internal organs. Anaesthesia is not usually required, making this a stress-free procedure for your pet.

For example, bladder stones and urinary tract disease in dogs, cats and small mammals can only be reliably diagnosed with ultrasound. Tumours in the abdominal organs can also be visualised and assessed.

Ultrasound is also useful for confirming pregnancy and monitoring fetal heart activity in expecting mothers.

Blood Pressure Monitoring

In our practice, we can measure your dog’s or cat’s blood pressure. We use both the Doppler method (to assess systolic blood pressure without interference from movement or stress) and oscillometric measurements (to determine average blood pressure).

Blood pressure monitoring is particularly important for heart disease, feline hyperthyroidism, and kidney disease. If high blood pressure is detected, medication can be administered, and regular follow-up checks can help slow or prevent further damage to internal organs.

Surgery

Before any procedure, we conduct a thorough examination of your pet, discuss potential risks, and provide a cost estimate.

For many surgeries, pre-operative blood work is recommended to rule out underlying conditions. We’re happy to advise you on this.

Please schedule an appointment for elective procedures.

Emergency wound care (e.g., bite injuries) is provided immediately.

We perform the following surgeries in our practice:

  • Spaying/neutering of female and male dogs and cats
  • Neutering of male and female small mammals (rabbits, rodents)
  • Tumor removal (skin tumors, mammary tumors)
  • Gastrointestinal surgeries (foreign body removal, intestinal obstruction)
  • Surgical removal of bladder stones
  • Medically necessary amputations (tail or digits)
  • Rabbit ear surgery: lateral ear canal ablation (LECA), bulla osteotomy (BO) if required
Anaesthesia

We offer the following anaesthesia services for your pet:

  • Injection and inhalation anaesthesia
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Endotracheal intubation (dogs and cats)
  • Laryngeal mask for rabbits
  • IV fluid therapy using infusion pumps
  • Local anaesthetic to block pain memory
  • Comprehensive monitoring (ECG, pulse oximetry, capnography, temperature, blood pressure)
  • Patient warming systems

Inhalation anaesthesia is particularly safe for small mammals, elderly pets or high-risk patients due to assisted ventilation and advanced monitoring. Patients typically recover more quickly and organ stress is minimised.

Behavioural Counselling

At times, understanding our pets and their behaviour can be challenging.

We offer expert advice on the following topics:

  • Puppy training
  • House training (toilet training)
  • Bonding rabbits and rodents
  • Introducing two cats
  • Choosing the right pet for your lifestyle
  • Choosing a new mate for your pet
  • Housing and feeding appropriate to the species

Behavioural Issues:

  • Urine marking or inappropriate elimination in cats
  • Separation anxiety in dogs (whining, howling, or destructive behaviour when left alone)
  • Dangerous aggression in dogs towards other dogs or people
  • Fear of fireworks (e.g., New Year’s Eve)
  • Excessive barking
  • Aggression between cats or cohabiting dogs
  • Overgrooming in cats

Behavioural problems require thorough assessment and treatment. The first step is always a clinical examination to rule out underlying medical causes. For example, bladder problems can lead to inappropriate urination, or hypothyroidism in dogs can contribute to increased anxiety.

Any potential medical conditions should be diagnosed and treated before training or behavioural therapy begins. In complex cases, we work closely with a veterinary behavioural specialist to ensure the best possible care for your pet.
